The AgQuip Field Days, Australia’s Premier Primary Industry Field Days, were first staged in 1973 in the centre of the Gunnedah Racecourse by radio stations 2TM and 2MO.
AgQuip introduced a totally new concept to field days – “a heavily promoted, shop-floor atmosphere, with no barriers between buyers and sellers, and all efforts geared to results – on site and as flow-on sales.” That concept has stood the test of time, ensuring success for AgQuip and its participants despite the challenges of drought, flood, recession and rationalism within the rural industry.
The first AgQuip attracted 69 participants and 30,000 visitors. Rapid growth in the ’70s necessitated a larger site and in 1977 the move was made to a permanent, purposebuilt site six kilometres west of Gunnedah. This site can now cater for the needs of more than 100,000 visitors.
